Volunteering

Voltage – the Youth Music Volunteers programme

Following a successful bid to v, the charity set up in 2006 in order to increase the numbers of young people volunteering, Youth Music is launching Voltage - a national music volunteering programme that will provide over 300 young people with structured volunteering opportunities over 3 years. The number of regions covered by the programme will expand over the 3 years to reach 9 in total. Youth Music will be working with music organisations in those regions to deliver the programme and volunteers will be linked to existing music activity.

Young People will get the chance to become a Young Ambassador for Music, acting as spokespeople for music and working to enhance music provision for the benefit of young people and the communities they live in. There will also be opportunities for young people to become Peer Mentors in the role of Associate Young Ambassador for a period of 6 months to a year. Participants will have the opportunity to gain Youth Achievement Awards for their contributions and will take part in annual training, induction and celebration events. Each partner organisation will also support 10 young people per year to take part in a taster volunteering opportunity.

The first phase of volunteers will be recruited and trained by July 2008 with taster opportunities taking place in autumn and winter 2008.
